Wrong turn, we ended up at Kelloffs. So out of the way heading towards Wolf Creek I slept thru a turn and our driver took us to Monte Vista CO. Heading west to Wolf Creek we needed some breakfast, and there was Kelloffs. We had almost run out of places to choose from when it came up along the side of the road. It looked like a small mom and pop diner, so we stopped to give it a try.

Im not a breakfast person and I asked if the lunch menu was available. They said it was no problem to fix something from the lunch menu for me. This was great.

I ordered the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and the others with me ordered a variety of other dishes. 2 years ago and I can still recall almost everyones order.

My chicken fried steak arrived, and it looked pretty good. However it was a challenge to cut, and tasted like stale oil. My guess is that it was a frozen patty.

One person ordered the "Kibbe Beef" which the waitress described as "a type of Lebanese salisbury steak or meatloaf containing beef, lamb and wheat" she said "some people love it, some people hate it".

When we inquired as to what it was she yelled for the kitchen to inquire herself as to what was actually in it.

The person at my table who ordered it hated it. I sampled it being curious and didn't care for it either, it wasn't bad but Id take meatloaf over it any day.

A third person at my table ordered a breakfast plate. I called them now 2 years later and they remembered the place as well.. He said it was Huevos Rancheros with corn tortillas & beans. I remember him sitting there waiting for the waitress to ask where his tortillas were, a few minutes later he discovered corn tortillas buried under his huge plate of beans and eggs.

Needless to say, all of us remember the place, what we ordered and the odd food delivered to our table. All I can say is it was an experience none of us will forget.

I don't know that I would recommend this place unless you like the unexpected. Maybe we should have ordered the burger.
